  Application

  L-cysteine can be used as a cysteine source to prepare L-cysteine functionalized gold nanoparticles for use as probes in the colorimetric detection of Hg²⁺ in aqueous solution.^[3]

  General description

  L-cysteine is a sulfur-containing non-essential amino acid.^[1] It is being assessed for its ability to reduce colitis symptoms for potential use in treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).^[2]
